About DEFRA Approval
DEFRA-approved stoves meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act 1993, ensuring they burn wood or authorised smokeless fuels cleanly in smoke control areas. Multi-fuel stoves can also burn other approved solid fuels safely, but normal house coal is not permitted in any DEFRA appliance.
