Wood Burning Stoves Myths Debunked By The SIA

There are plenty of misconceptions surrounding wood burning stoves, and sometimes the truth gets in the way of a good story as far as the national press are concerned.

Last year we asked: Are Wood Burning Stoves Going to be Banned? following the Department for Environmental Food and Rural Affair’s 2019 Clean Air Strategy, and subsequent negative news reports.

The short answer to that question was, and still is, no. The Stove Industry Alliance have been working in tandem with DEFRA to ensure the creation of EcoDesign ready stoves, contributing to lowering air pollution. There are many designs available and their higher efficiency can save you money, too.

Now, in 2020, the SIA have released an informative video to highlight the many myths surrounding Wood Burning Stoves.

Some of the main points discussed are:

  • How ‘facts’ around stoves being the biggest cause of small particulate matter in the UK have been miscalculated
  • That wood burning stoves don’t create the same emissions as 18 diesel cars, as has been reported
  • That not all wood burners are harmful

You can watch the entire video below:

Direct Stoves are proud to stock a wide range of DEFRA approved, eco compliant stoves. They come in a range of shapes, sizes and prices and most importantly,  already adhere to low emission legislation that will be implemented from 2022. This means you can continue to enjoy the warming glow of a wood burning stove, whilst also caring for the environment.
