How Do Pellet Stoves work?
Simply put, wood pellet stoves burn compressed wood or biomass pellets to create a source of heat. By slowly feeding fuel automatically from the storage container (the hopper) into the burn tray, a constant flame is created and monitored to ensure maximum efficiency.
The built-in hopper allows pellet burners to operate independently for about 12 hours under full load.
Pellet Stoves have automatic ignition which means that you can be sure your pellet burner will only start burning when it is needed, saving you a lot of money in the long run.
In terms of fuelling your pellet stove, pellets are convenient and comparatively cheap when put up against other fuel sources. Not only that, the cost of pellets doesn't change all that option - so you can expect to pay fairly consistent prices for your fuel.
All models have at least a thermostat, so they switch off and on again automatically. Some models also have advanced functions: programming, remote control, smartphone/internet control, and more.
What are the Pellet stove flue requirements?
Well, you won’t need a chimney with a good draw for your pellet stove: smoke is expelled to the outside by forced ventilation via an 80 to 120 mm tube, placed vertically or horizontally. The tube can even have a bend in it. The stove can therefore be installed almost anywhere, against or near an outside wall and plug socket or under a ceiling.
Pellet stoves consume either room air or outside air (on models with a double exhaust and suction tube or a separate exterior air supply).
