How Do Pellet Stoves work?

Simply put, wood pellet stoves burn compressed wood or biomass pellets to create a source of heat. By slowly feeding fuel automatically from the storage container (the hopper) into the burn tray, a constant flame is created and monitored to ensure maximum efficiency.

The built-in hopper allows pellet burners to operate independently for about 12 hours under full load.

Pellet Stoves have automatic ignition which means that you can be sure your pellet burner will only start burning when it is needed, saving you a lot of money in the long run.

In terms of fuelling your pellet stove, pellets are convenient and comparatively cheap when put up against other fuel sources. Not only that, the cost of pellets doesn't change all that option - so you can expect to pay fairly consistent prices for your fuel.

All models have at least a thermostat, so they switch off and on again automatically. Some models also have advanced functions: programming, remote control, smartphone/internet control, and more.

What are the Pellet stove flue requirements?

Well, you won’t need a chimney with a good draw for your pellet stove: smoke is expelled to the outside by forced ventilation via an 80 to 120 mm tube, placed vertically or horizontally. The tube can even have a bend in it. The stove can therefore be installed almost anywhere, against or near an outside wall and plug socket or under a ceiling.

Pellet stoves consume either room air or outside air (on models with a double exhaust and suction tube or a separate exterior air supply).

Why Should I Buy a Pellet Stove?

Apart from extreme efficiency, stylish design and an excellent output - Pellet Stoves are also far better for the environment.

Pellets are made with sawdust from the wood processing industry (furniture, pallets, lumber, etc.).

Pellet stoves are carbon neutral because the carbon released during combustion is equivalent to that absorbed by the tree during its growth.

The efficiency of a quality pellet stove can exceed 90%. So only 10% of the energy contained in the pellets is lost in the chimney. That’s more than a classic wood fireplace, the efficiency of which is only 40 to 50% (60 to 80% for recent high-efficiency stoves) a lot more than an open fire, which has an efficiency of only between 5 and 15%.

What are the benefits of Pellet Stoves?

  •  They come in a range of shapes, sizes and styles, from small pellet Stoves to much larger appliances.
  • Fuel typically only needs to be replenished once a day, as opposed to appliances fuelled by wood, which need a more regular top-up every few hours.
  • Pellets are a cost-effective source of fuel.
  • Pellets can be bought from local suppliers and are renewable, helping the environment through the reduced need for transport, and contributing to security of supply.
  • Compared to fossil fuels, pellets release much lower emissions.
  • Pellet stoves are highly efficient, with an average efficiency of 91%. This is due to the even distribution of heat by an extractor.
  • Using your smartphone, you can precisely control the way in which heat is distributed in your home.
