The Saltfire Bignut 5 Bioethanol Stove is the larger sibling of the popular Peanut 5, combining the familiar appeal of the range with added capacity and flexible installation options. Designed to accommodate longer logs and offer a higher fuel capacity, it delivers the same 5kW nominal heat output as a standard wood or multifuel stove, while also giving you the option to enjoy the look of a real flame with bioethanol when a lower heat output is preferred.
Crafted from durable solid cast iron, the Bignut 5 is built for lasting performance as well as everyday visual appeal. Its clean, simple design makes it a natural fit for both modern and traditional interiors, while the expansive viewing window creates a beautiful focal point in the room. A powerful airwash system helps keep the glass crystal clear, so you can continue to enjoy an uninterrupted view of the flames.
For added versatility, the Bignut 5 can be used with a bioethanol fuel insert tray, which gives a typical heat output of 1-1.5kW. This makes it ideal as a background heat source or for creating a real flame aesthetic when you do not require the heat of a woodburner. It is particularly well suited to spring and summer evenings, or for winter use in rooms where there is already a primary heat source, such as central heating.
This stove can either be installed as a normal wood or multifuel stove with an appropriate flue system, allowing it to be used for solid fuel or bioethanol, or it can be installed free-standing without a chimney or flue if you intend to use only the bioethanol option.
The bioethanol burner tray is designed for convenience and flexibility. It can be lifted in and out of the stove easily without any tools, and when removed it can also be used outside the stove, for example on a patio during summer evenings. With the tray removed, the Bignut 5 becomes the standard wood stove and can be used with wood, subject to a suitable chimney connection.
As well as offering flexibility in use, the Bignut 5 has strong environmental credentials. It has a clearSkies rating of 4, an 80.1% heat efficiency rating, meets EcoDesign standards, and has DEFRA approval for use in smoke control areas throughout the UK.
Bioethanol also brings a number of practical benefits. As a biofuel, it is considered carbon-neutral because the carbon dioxide released during burning is absorbed by plants during their growth. The liquid fuel is easy and clean to store, and although the heat output is noticeably lower than a solid fuel appliance, the bioethanol burner still provides useful background warmth together with the attraction and cosiness of a real flame fire.
