The Ekol 12 Crystal stove combines traditional, sturdy cast iron construction with modern stove technology, bringing together time-honoured craftsmanship and contemporary performance. Hand-made and designed and developed in Dorset, this stove delivers the striking flame picture the Crystal range is known for, along with practical everyday versatility.
As a standard wood or multifuel stove, the Ekol 12 Crystal offers a heat output of 12kW, making it well suited to larger rooms and open-plan living spaces. Its powerful airwash system helps to keep the viewing window crystal clear, so you can enjoy an uninterrupted view of the flames, while primary, secondary and tertiary air control allows you to manage the heat output with confidence. With less ash produced, maintenance is simple and hassle-free.
This model can also be used with a bioethanol fuel insert tray, giving a typical heat output of 1-1.5kW. This makes it ideal as a background heat source or for creating a real flame aesthetic when you do not need the higher heat output of a woodburner. It is particularly well suited to spring and summer evenings, or for winter use in rooms where there is already a primary heat source, such as central heating.
The stove can be installed as a normal wood or multifuel stove with an appropriate flue system, allowing it to be used for solid fuel or bioethanol. Alternatively, it can be installed free-standing without a chimney or flue if you intend to use only the bioethanol option.
The bioethanol burner tray is designed for convenience and flexibility. It can be lifted in and out of the stove easily without the need for tools. When removed, the tray can also be used outside the stove, for example on a patio during summer evenings. With the tray removed, the stove becomes the standard wood stove and can be used with wood, subject to a suitable chimney connection.
Bioethanol offers several practical benefits. As a biofuel, it is considered carbon-neutral because the carbon dioxide released during burning is absorbed by plants during their growth. The liquid fuel is also easy and clean to store. While the heat output is noticeably lower than a solid fuel appliance, the bioethanol burner still provides useful background warmth along with the comfort and cosiness of a real flame fire.
For added style, optional mirrored door glass is available for a more discreet appearance when the stove is not lit. The Ekol 12 Crystal also has a heat efficiency rating of 77%, is clearSkies rated 5, DEFRA-approved for use in smoke control zones, and meets the latest EcoDesign standards.
