Why does a register plate have to be sealed and gas tight?

Hi,
Thank you for your enquiry.
It only needs to be air tight if you don't have a flue liner, so the harmful gasses cant come back in to the room.
If you have a flue liner, that will take the the gasses out. It will still need to be sealed and should be air tight but doesn't have to be.
